2006-01-20 - 6:51 p.m. No Heat. This morning when I woke up, the house felt a little colder than normal. Uh, oh, boiler problem I thought. Then I convinced myself that it was just due to my cold, until I checked the thermostat before leaving the house. It was set for 70 degrees, but the real temp was in the 50’s. Shit! I had to go to work. I turned the thermo to off. When I got home, I checked the water. Fine. I turned on the thermostat, heard a click, but the boiler didn’t fire up. Called the landlord who called the plumber. The usual goes on. The plumber thinks it’s a PSE&G problem. It usually is. We’ve been getting dirt in the line the last couple of years. He asks me if the pilot is lit. What do I know? When the boiler turns off, you can’t see the freaking pilot light, but I diligently go to the basement and obey his instructions to check the pilot light. It was a complicated deal of removing boiler parts, turning knobs, and holding buttons, while waving a torch and a flashlight, and I still couldn’t see the pilot or light a flame. So the plumber comes. Low and behold, there was one more boiler panel to remove. Anyway, he lit the pilot, but it wouldn’t stay lit, so I had to call PSE&G. They’re coming tomorrow between 8 AM and 12PM. At least it’s fairly warm today and way better than the time they showed up at 1 minute to midnight when I was freezing my ass off. It’s always such a struggle to get the heat fixed when there is a problem. It’s supposed to be rainy and damp tomorrow. The boyfried wanted to go away this weekend for my birthday is on Monday. Oh well. Just when I need heat to get over my cold, I’m left with my cold, but I ain’t gonna let it bring my birthday weekend down.
